First I want to wish everyone a Safe and Prosperous New Year. I hope to see many of you at this year's reunion and for those who can't make it we'll drink a toast to your good health.
Only one game this week and it was against a good Vanderbilt team

Life Without Otule from Al Kelly
Here's an article by Tom Enlund of JS Online about MU's troubles without Chris Otule. Whether or not Chris comes back this season is still questionable and is still some time away. Once he's healthy enough to play the question will become are they going to use an injury related redshirt for him. He would be eligible to use the redshirt year and save a year's eligibility giving him two more years to play at Marquette. What would you do?

Local College Hoops Fans Must Look Around

Journalistic objectivity is put to the test whenever Marquette University plays basketball. I went to school in that gritty, lively patch of Milwaukee just south of the late, great Avalanche Bar, and it was a life-altering experience.

Preview of Marquette vs LSU 12-19-11 from Ray Gajan
From this mornings(Monday 12/19/11) New Orleans paper:
BATON ROUGE -- LSU might be on a four-game winning streak -- its first such streak since the early part of the 2009-10 season -- but it faces an entirely new challenge tonight against an undefeated No. 11 Marquette team.

MU 93 Northern Colorado 72
How can I say that when freshman Todd Mayo lead the team in scoring and tied for second in rebounds and assists. Cadougan had nine assists (I am still not on his bandwagon), Gardner missed one shot and one free throw out of nine not only showing that if he can get a shot away he will either make it or get fouled and lets not forget his five rebounds

Marquette Overcomes Injuries and Stays Unbeaten from Al Kelly
MU 79 UWGB 61
Despite having only eight players available on Saturday night MU easily outclassed a young Green Bay team. Unfortunately I got so comfortable watching the game that I fell asleep with eleven minutes left in the first half never to wake again.
My impression of UWGB was that they were in big trouble if they really wanted to win the game. Three players stood out in my memory of those first few minutes.

As Ricky Nelson Said....(almost) from Joe Streator
..The Warriors went to a garden party.
Thanks to the Villanova/Missouri game running a bit long last night, I saw the between games filler which was Jim Valvano's ESPY (Excellence in Sports Performance Yearly) speech during the first ESPY event on March 3, 1993. If you have never heard his speech watch this video. It is very, very good. Fifty-six days later he was dead.

Great Win Over Wisconsin! Tonite Its Washington from Al Kelly
By now you all probably know MU beat Wisconsin in Madison Saturday. Final score Marquette 61 Wisconsin 54. MU held the lead the entire second half and a good part of the first half.
Neither team shot well but Marquette had a big advantage on the offensive boards and in second chance points. Wisconsin's All American point guard candidate Jordan Taylor picked up several early offensive fouls and spent as much time on the bench as on the court.
Can it Get Any Better? from Joe Streator
Where to begin when reviewing yesterday's game? What were you thinking when they announced Cadougan would not play? When Derrick Wilson was named to start? When Crowder picked up his third foul at the start of the second half? When our lead went to one? Put all those thoughts far back in your memory, this team is for real!!!!!! On the other hand, what did you think when Vander Blue scored on the first second half position or what did you think when Todd Mayo made one of his crucial buckets? Buzz out coached Bo? That was not a fluke; Buzz continues to grow as a coach. Take this Wisconsin, if we can't get a fast break bucket we are going to play deliberate offensive ball too. Bo Ryan has lost six non-conference home games in his ten years at UW....two to us.

Marquette at Wisconsin Today from Al Kelly
Marquette finally has a real game to play today. Its time for Buzz Williams to take his team to the Kohl Center in Madison and play Bo Ryan's Badgers. Both teams are ranked in the top 20 this week so it should be a competitive game. It will be the first real test for MU and they will be walking into a lion's den where visitors rarely win.

Exactly Where We Should Be from Joe Streator
I hope everyone had a very nice Thanksgiving and, among other things, enjoyed the Warriors winning the Paradise Jam. Nothing wrong with winning a tournament in a warm climate but I will be more impressed by winning in Maui next year after losing Crowder and Johnson-Odom. I will also be more impressed with a solid performance against Madison, currently ranked 9 and 7, on Saturday. We never seem to come out on top when both teams are in the top 20. We better do well because UW has only one senior of any consequence so next year's game in Milwaukee certainly will not be a cake walk.
I counted five very solid performances against Jacksonville.

Friday's Player Thoughts from Joe Streator
I had to chuckle a bit reading that Buzz credited the defense for the nice victory. I don't know if the Eagles of Rock Hill South Carolina are supposed to be a scoring machine in the mighty Big South Conference, but I don't think giving up seventy-three points to them is something to be proud of; not to mention letting them hit forty percent of their three point attempts.

Marquette 95 Winthrop 73 from Al Kelly
I didn't know the broadcast was pay per view until game time when I went to watch the game. I spent the $4.99 and watched anyway. It was a really cheap broadcast with the audio feed coming from Homer and McIlvaine on the radio broadcast. No replays or any other bells and whistles. Video feed was OK but the camera work was all over the place. You didn't know the score unless Homer or Mac mentioned it or they showed the scoreboard during a time out. They did include a live stats page if you like that kind of stuff. The broadcast was not worth the price.
Paradise Jam Broadcasts from Al Kelly
Here's the link to the Paradise Jam TV and live stream information. First game vs Winthrop will be available on a live stream to your computer. Semifinals and finals will be broadcast by Fox Sports Network on their regular FSN channel and FCS (Fox College Sports) channel. I don't know if it will be shown on their Wisconsin channel.

Marquette Starts a New Season from Joe Streator
Here we are 2-0 and what do we know about the team? Not much more than at the end of last year in my opinion but it's nice to see FT shooting get off to a good start. Let's hope there is no game under 70% this year.
It appears that DJO and Crowder have picked up from where they left off last year which is good. It sure would be nice if DJO has a season to make him a first round pick and that Crowder does enough to be picked in the second round.
It also appears Vander Blue has significantly improved from his terrible performance last year. If that proves true we are a big step closer to being REALLY good.
