I had to chuckle a bit reading that Buzz credited the defense for the nice victory. I don't know if the Eagles of Rock Hill South Carolina are supposed to be a scoring machine in the mighty Big South Conference, but I don't think giving up seventy-three points to them is something to be proud of; not to mention letting them hit forty percent of their three point attempts.
Nice to see Vander Blue with a career high of twenty-six points. Had he had a year like many expected last year, twenty-six last night would have reignited talk of him going pro after this year. I hope he can make it to that level after four years. Here's hoping for a repeat performance soon. His real test will come December 3 at the hostile Kohl Center.
Give Otule another two plusses going 5-6 from the field and grabbing seven rebounds in fifteen minutes. That's all anyone should want from him...make a high percentage of shots from within a few feet of the bucket and don't take any farther away then that and average close to ten rebounds in twenty-five to thirty minutes of play.
Todd Mayo's offense is hard not to like, can't wait to see his defense to form an opinion there. Too many turnovers by Cadougan and Gardner. And under 69% shooting from the free throw line? Only seven minutes of playing time for Jamail Jones. I don't like to see that but if that is what he has earned then so be it. (If the minutes continue to be limited he is going to have to make a tough decision...sit on the bench for two more years or transfer.) All in all it is probably not reasonable to expect much better after three games.
Homer and Mac liked Mayo's defense on Jones. They commented on how he guarded him all the way out to half court and took it upon himself to really stay with him.
