Happy New Year from Al Kelly

First I want to wish everyone a Safe and Prosperous New Year. I hope to see many of you at this year's reunion and for those who can't make it we'll drink a toast to your good health.

Only one game this week and it was against a good Vanderbilt team
who had MU's number from the opening tip. The game ended up being the biggest loss since Buzz became head coach. After a slow start Vandy is starting to look like the team many had ranked in the top ten in the preseason.

Unfortunately for Marquette they are starting to look like a team who has lost one of their most important pieces. With Otule out and Gardner ineffective and in foul trouble their lack of size and poor shooting led to a 24-2 run by Vandy and  the game was over with 10 minutes left in the first half. The embarrassing half time score was 44-22. Buzz raised the white flag with six minutes left but the outcome had been decided much earlier.

Now we start the Big East season with a game against Villanova at the Bradley  Center on New Year's Day followed by a trip to Georgetown on Wednesday. Can this team overcome their shortcomings to challenge for a top spot in the conference or will we fall to another .500 season?

Have a Great New Year!!
