Burton's Ready to Fly for the Golden Eagles
Brewster Academy's 6-5 wingman says Marquette was the perfect fit
Deonte Burton is a strong and skilled swingman in the 2013 class and a couple of weeks ago, he decided he'll be taking his talents to Marquette University.
The move came rather early for the consensus top-50 junior as he still has 1.5 years left to be recruited by other schools.
"Why wait when I already know what school is perfect for me?," Burton told Fivestarbasketball.com.
Listening to the Brewster Academy standout, one can understand why. He's from Milwaukee, so the move easily allows his family to attend games. He'll also be playing in the Big East, which if you've seen him play before, fits his physical style. In addition, Golden Eagles head coach Buzz Williams draws a lot of comparisions to his Terry Porter Elite coach.
"Coach Buzz is just like my AAU coach [Bryan Johnikin]," Burton said. "He's intense and I know he is going to push me."
Burton's Terry Porter Elite team was ranked in the top-10 of the Five-Star Top 25 at one point this season. During the summer, the team made stops at the NY2LA/Next Level tournament in Milwaukee and the Fab 48 in Las Vegas, NV. Coach Williams shadowed the smooth small forward.
"He was at all my games this summer," Burton said. "It means a lot. It shows that they are really interested in me."
Burton will join sharp-shooting, stretch 2012 4-man Steve Taylor for Marquette in two years. For now, he is more concerned with winning a national prep school championship at Brewster Academy, where he teams with top recruits Mitch McGary and T.J. Warren.
