Marquette Recruiting Class for 2012: Aaron Durley

Emerging Center Aaron Durley Picks Marquette

With three talents in the fray in their 2012 recruiting class, Marquette’s coaching staff took a commitment with perhaps an eye for the future, in 6′-10″ Aaron Durley of Bush (TX). Durley is a raw post presence, with great size at 270 pounds. He’ll only improve, though, as Durley will compete every day in practice this year against 6′-10″ Texas commit Cameron Ridley, his high school teammate, prior to hitting campus.

Before his commitment to join the hoop squad for the Golden Eagles, Durley’s biggest claim to fame was his performance as a youth in the Little League World Series, as a 6′-8″ 12 year old. He’s only played basketball for a few years, but brings a huge body and long-term potential to Marquette. The Golden Eagles have a fellow large framed banger on the roster in Davante Gardner for Durley to match up against in practice.

Durley ran with the Houston Hoopstars after dealing with an injury as a junior. Marquette fans will remember that Durley plays at the former high school of current post player Chris Otule.

Durley spoke with JSOnline.com regarding his commitment, saying,”Coach (Buzz) Williams does a great job up there with his players and the program. When I came up there for an official visit two weeks ago, I liked it and I could see myself playing and getting a lot better. So it just felt like a good fit to me.”

Marquette has former Oklahoma player TJ Taylor, a wing committed, along with guard Jamal Ferguson, and the top senior in Illinois, forward Steve Taylor.
