Todd Mayo Returning to Marquette Basketball Team

According to two reputable sources, CBSSports College Basketball Insider Jeff Goodman and JSOnline Marquette beat writer Michael Hunt, Buzz Williams and the NCAA have reinstated Todd Mayo.

He will be in uniform Saturday when Marquette plays LSU. Since he hasn't played with the team yet this year how much he can contribute now is questionable. I'm sure some fans will give him a big hand when he gets in the game Saturday because he showed last year he has the potential to be the type of scorer this year's team has been missing. Lets hope those cheers don't go to his head and he remembers the team always comes first.

Buzz Williams said Thursday that sophomore guard Todd Mayo is now academically eligible to play and will be in uniform Saturday against LSU.

Williams met with members of Mayo's family Thursday.

"He is eligible, but I wanted his family to understand exactly where he is with all his acadmics," Williams said.

Mayo was declared academically ineligible before the season began.

Marquette's Todd Mayo Reinstated To Team
By Jeff Goodman of College Basketball Insider December 20, 2012 8:26 pm ET

Marquette's Todd Mayo is back after missing the first semester because of academics.

Mayo, the younger brother of NBA guard O.J. Mayo, averaged 7.9 points per game last season but was expected to have an expanded role with the departure of the Golden Eagles' top two players, Jae Crowder and Darius Johnson-Odom.

Marquette coach Buzz Williams told CBSSports.com on Thursday, shortly after the 6-foot-3 guard was cleared. Mayo had dealt with a few offseason issues -- including one of the academic variety.

His scoring is needed for a team that is coming off a 49-47 loss to Green Bay and fell to 7-3 overall. Arizona State transfer Trent Lockett has struggled to adapt, averaging just 7.8 points in 24 minutes per game. Vander Blue leads the team at 12.7 points per game.

    2. I'm not sure to what your comment is directed or who wrote it. MU obviously needs a real stud in the middle. Both Gardner and Otule have major flaws.

Marquette also needs a real scorer in their lineup. Blue, Wilson, and Cadougan are too inconsistent. One game on, the next game off. When teams play zone its easy to collapse on Gardner.

Diamond Stone is the next "aircraft carrier" coming out of Milwaukee but he's only a sophomore. Lets hope he wants to play in a new conference.
