It was definitely a coming out party for Jamil Wilson, he took and hit some of the most critical shots in the game to keep the momentum going. Gardner played sparingly from the bench but his 7 points were big. I think Wilson has finally found his confidence and his role on this team. He was the player of this game.
I think Todd Mayo is learning and growing and will become more consistent and significant as the games go on as he has a ton of talent. He reminds me a little of Ray Allen as a pure shooter and he can also go to the hoop very effectively but sometimes out of control. DJO and Crowder just take care of business every game.
It was a good game as Providence has a really young team with no seniors, 2 juniors, 7 sophomores and 4 freshmen. Bryce Cotton SO Guard shot the eyes out of the hoop (26 pts) and another sophomore Kadeem Batts had 11 rebounds. Providence out rebounded us 40-33, especially on the offensive boards in the first half 21-10. They had more points in the paint, more points off turnovers and more 2nd chance points. However the Warriors dominated off the bench 29-7 and that is where our strength is.
It was a good game and a good road win as they are always tough. Met a lot of Marquette grads and fans in the stadium as well as across the street at the Trinity Brewhouse waiting for the snow to stop.
Looking forward to next game. Loved seeing ND defeat Syracuse and Duke go down to Fl St. Hoping to make plans for the Big East Tournament.
